Yeah, I know...I'm a bit late on this one. These guys have been playing many of the top US music festivals this year. I was introduced to their goodness by a friend, and they fit right in with my heavy indie folk obsession (you can see the attraction once you understand my obsession with Elvis Perkins in Dearland, who, btw, I just saw at NYC's The Bell House back to back on 4/23 & 4/24).
They have a good bit of variation in regards to their style. Check out their album From Below to see for yourself.
Here are a few samples of their wonderful sounds:
"40 Day Dream"
"Jade"
"Kisses Over Babylon"

Elvis Perkins in Dearland
This post is all about my favorite artist/band of the year, the little-known and should-be-widely-known (for the benefit of music appreciators everywhere) Elvis Perkins (in or out of Dearland), who is certainly in my top 10 favorite artists of all time. I'm not going to break down their music for you...it's late, so I'll save that for another day.
I'm going to give you a link to the vid for my favorite song, "While You Were Sleeping," but just know that this is not the best version. I can't find my favorite version anywhere online...I downloaded it from their myspace or something over the summer & it's no longer there, but this is the closest version I could find (live on Letterman...GO PERKINS IN DEARLAND!). It's still beautiful, but when you ask yourself, "OH! Can it get ANY BETTER THAN THIS?!?!?!?!???????!!!!!!" that the answer surprisingly is "yes. Elvis Perkins in Dearland can make the most amazing things happen."
And my 2nd favorite song, which actually has more general appeal:
ENJOY. May they move you in the way that they've moved me. Refresh the soul!

- I love music. I think I'm addicted, though I've never gone long enough without it to know if I'll have withdrawals or not. There's definitely a mad rush of dopamine when I hear it, and a dopamine overflow when I see it live. I'll be posting my songs/artists of the day anytime I am moved to do so. This happens pretty often, whether it's a new song I've just heard, an old song I've rediscovered, or a show that I just went to. In terms of genre, anything goes. I must warn you, however, that I've been really into chill stuff lately: stuff that relaxes and refreshes me. I have a theory that this is due to my current stress level, but we'll see how it plays out in the long-run. I believe that if you listen to these artists/songs in the right context, they can have absolutely positive effects on your being. DISCLAIMER: If you're not into the songs I post, don't write the artists off based on those alone, because many of them have quite the range of style & emotion. So welcome to my world of music. My hope is that you might find music that will become meaningful to you. At least, that's what my life is all about.
